YELLOWSTONE: DANGEROUS BEAUTY

Yellowstone and the Internet

Yellowstone. The name alone invokes either thoughts of beauty and serenity, or fears of doomsday. The fact is, this is a place where these two scenarios exist all in one location. Though it is a vast and incredibly beautiful natural wonder, it sits atop one of the most fearsome super volcanos in the world. If this volcano were to erupt with a full scale super eruption, life in the United States would cease to exist as we know it today...and to some extent, the whole world .

The ash fall from a super eruption at this volcano would cover most of the U.S. Planes going over the region would crash. Food animals would die from ash inhalation. The ash fall would block sunlight, causing temperatures to plummet, killing plant life and crops. Food shortages, water contamination, climate change...not happy times. However, this is only if there were a worst case scenario. as in super eruption. It is possible that there would be a "smaller" eruption along the lines of Mt. St. Helen, but no one can really say. It many never erupt again....but there is the rub...we just don't know. So it is important to be prepared (for any disaster), and to be informed.

So now we are hearing talk of recent activity at Yellowstone. The internet is rampant with doomsday predictions regarding Yellowstone. How do we discern the truth from fiction? Most experts will say to only trust official information sources, such as USGS or University of Utah, or "News Media". But there is some question as to whether the information given by theses entities has been completely open and honest. Perhaps they withhold information in order to keep the public from panic. Personally, I think this may be true to a small degree, but I don't think it is an "evil conspiracy". So I do listen to them, and also "alternative media", and then I decide what sounds credible to me.

There are people out there who love conspiracy, and they love drama. They will put out false information because it gets them attention. They don't check facts, they won't listen to reason (or anyone else's opinion to be exact), and they absolutely WILL NOT listen to scientific fact. Those are the ones to avoid as far as information goes. They do not care about anything but winning the pissing contest. Oh....and as far as youtube is concerned....the amount of viewers and subscribers does NOT equal credibility. There are some who put out incredibly ignorant information, who have thousands of views. This is mostly because people are simply entertained by their stupidity....not because they are a trusted source of information. I go to these on a regular basis...because it is simply hilarious!

So, bottom line is this....be careful where you get your information. That goes for anything, not just Yellowstone. Best advice...be prepared for anything. Inform yourself, stay stocked upon food, water, and anything you may need if stores were to be closed down in a disaster. Here is a great place to learn how to do that

Life is too short to spend in eternal worry over things we haveno control over. All we can do is educate ourselves, be prepared to the best of our ability, and stay informed. Other than that, there isn't much more that can be done. I focus a lot on Yellowstone on my youtube channel, just because it is an interest of mine. I keep an eye on things like the webcams, and information coming out, so if you want to check that out, here is the link. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCmLjMEO_GZM3AXZ379RTyIQ Just remember that it is information, not doomsday hype. I also do videos on other topics, though lately I have been focusing on Yellowstone, as there have been some interesting things going on lately (notice I did not say an eruption is imminent, I said information)
Hope to see you there!
